Muscle pulls, ligament sprains, fights, fractures, bruises, electric shocks, car accidents, falls, sprains, burns and dislocations. These are all various examples of 'acute injuries'. Basically, this means that the injury was caused recently, as a result of a traumatic event. Lot's of acute orthopaedics use a treatment called 'RICE'. This method includes resting, ice, compression and elevation. When treated promptly, such injuries are of limited duration. The patients level of consciousness is also assessed. If they're breathing, talking and experiencing minimal pain after an acute injury, these are usually signs that it is only a minor injury and can easily be treated. However, if the patient is experiencing severe pain, are struggling to breathe and develop an altered level of consciousness, this means that it is recommended that they require further help from a physician. In some cases, people genuinely die from acute injuries if they're not resolved.
