Overuse injuries are more or less the opposite of acute injuries, tissues adapt to the stresses placed on them over time. Professional sports players (footballers, for example) spend hours training and practising certain movements and actions every day. Consequently, overuse injuries are very common in sport. Just some of the injuries being tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, ITBS, stress fractures and shin splints. Similarly to acute injuries, the main cure is resting. Ice may help to stop the swelling, and physiotherapy may be required. It's very important to rest inbetween activities, as this gives the muscles time to recover.
